Deciding to go into therapy is a big step. Whilst it is certainly a positive step, it likely holds questions and concerns about how it all works.
Most of our lives – be they busy or quiet – presents us with difficulties from time to time. Sometimes we can manage well ourselves, but at other times, we become stuck and are unsure just exactly what we need in order to move forward.
At these junctures, therapy can offer us a safe space to explore our lives – identify patterns of old and indeed new, decide what is no longer useful and consider what might be better choices for us at this point.
Essential ingredients in order for therapy to be effective are confidentiality, trust, respect and acceptance and so, the relationship between you and your therapist is fundamental.
You need to feel comfortable, valued and safe for the process to work well. This relationship will take a little time to build of-course, and it will be co-created by both you and your therapist.
